If there is one song I could pick that expresses my feelings about my country and my family it would be God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood. I have a very fond memory of when I was a child and we went to see Uncle Herb in Sunny California and we got to go on base where Uncle Herbie worked and enjoy a day of activities with celebrities and other families. At the conclusion of the day we sat on the lawn as a family and Lee Greenwood sang this song and fireworks were going off in the sky. I believe I wasmaybe 12 or thirteen and tears were rolling down my face and the pride I felt for my country and my family at that time was unbelievable. To this day when I hear this song my mind wanders back to the good old days in California with Uncle Herb and they way I felt.
God Bless The USA
by Lee Greenwood
If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I’d worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my children and my wife.
I’d thank my lucky stars,
to be livin here today.
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can’t take that away.
And I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.
From the lakes of Minnesota,
to the hills of Tennessee.
Across the plains of Texas,
From sea to shining sea.
From Detroit down to Houston,
and New York to L.A.
Well there's pride in every American heart,
and its time we stand and say.
That I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.
And I’m proud to be and American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

This is my favorite patriotic song too. I cry almost every time I hear it and it truly inspires me to be a better person and a better citizen of this great country. Thanks for sharing your memories of such a great day for you.
